E-PORTFOLIO GROWTH

  • In my opinion, this e-portfolio has provided me with a lot, in the sense of a different point of view on various aspects of teaching such as philosophies, KSA's and the various types of teaching styles (direct/indirect). 

  • I firmly believe that this whole process of creating this online resume has made me a better learner and a better teacher; I no longer have a very direct aspect to teaching, I have opened and expanded my "world view" in the profession of teaching. This has a lot to do with the environment that I have been associated with in that having the opportunity of seeing and hearing different viewpoints towards the same general end goal during my school visits which was very intriguing and valuable into understanding the profession and the difference among schools and teachers in their actions and beliefs.

  • As I have had the opportunity to see other schools and see various systems and point of views, indefinitely my perspectives towards the profession and understanding it better have changed, for the better in the sense of helping me into developing the persona that I want as a teacher, as a learner, and as a doer. 

  • As this is my first year in the education program and as a first year education student coming into the profession, I had no real in-depth experience into the profession of teaching within a classroom. but I do though have experience in teaching youth through coaching and mentoring youth soccer in Medicine Hat and those skills that I developed to suit the needs of that occupation were simple transferred and applied into a school setting as to me there was no other teaching-type experience apart from tutoring and being a leader at work prior to entering MHC UT Education program. Therefore, due to all these factors, I was not initially (first practicum) in the best level of experience and confidence entering a new school, with a random new teacher, and teaching students that I have never seen before and/or have meet before.

  • That initially was my views and feeling entering this course way back into day 1 of the process to success (practicum 1). As time progressed though and as I entered my second practicum, I had developed many new skills that would help into my development and now with this e-portfolio being introduced, it provides me with a guideline of what I truly know and what I still need to obtain.
